After a decade away, Boston returns to NLLReport: Google executive financing expansion teamR.A. Philly Outsider's Guide Editor in Chief The National Lacrosse League will hold a press conference Wednesday to announce the return of Boston to the league for the 2008 season, according to a report on the Sports Business Daily web site. Google president of advertising and commerce Tim Armstrong reportedly is a principal owner in the team, which will play at TD Banknorth Garden. Boston has been out of the NLL since 1997, when the Boston Blazers suspended operations after a nine-year run (including three seasons in Worcester, Mass., as the New England Blazers). No word on whether the name "Blazers" will be revived, or even on the club's garish orange-and-green color scheme, but there apparently will be a familiar face behind the bench -- former Blazer forward Tom Ryan, who also played for Baltimore and Philadelphia. -30- |
