So the traditionalists didn't get everything they wanted with Boston's return to professional lacrosse -- the garish orange-and-green logo has been retired for good.

However, it was a good day all around for New England lacrosse fans who pined for a return to the days of the Boston Blazers, as the until-now-unnamed expansion franchise announced today that it will also use the name.

The expansion Boston Blazers' logo (top), unveiled today, and the logo of the previous Boston Blazers (bottom), who played from 1989 to 1997.

"I grew up a Blazers fan and I'm thrilled that fans across New England will once again have the opportunity to root for them," Blazers owner Tim Armstrong said.

"Lacrosse is not only the fastest growing sport in New England, but also across the country. The name 'Blazers' is both nostalgic and also appropriate."

Unlike the original Blazers, who wore a lime green and burnt orange ensemble that can only be described politely as "attention-grabbing," the expansion team will be decked out in red, black and white.

The new Blazers' logo features the silhouette of an attacking player, with red flames extending out to the left. The word "Blazers" appears below, in red fading to the black at the bottom of each letter, with white and black trim.

The Blazers also announced the creation of a team web site, blazerslacrosse.com, and that season tickets are now on sale through the web site, ranging from $68 to $510 for eight-game packages.

The original Blazers played in the Major Indoor Lacrosse League from 1989 to 1997, suspending operations just prior to the National Lacrosse League's debut season in 1998.
