The Edmonton Rush today named Bob Hamley as its new general manager and head coach, two days after Paul Day was fired from both positions.

Hamley, who had been an assistant coach with the Colorado Mammoth this season, will join the Rush in time for this Saturday's home game against San Jose.

Former Rush players Jamey Bowen and Chris Stachniak will serve as assistant coaches.

"We are excited about Bob's plans for the Rush and we are confident that he is the right person -- the right new voice -- to be leading the club to greater success," Rush president Duane Vienneau said.

"Bob is a proven winner. He has a great track record and great credentials," Vienneau added. "The entire organization is looking forward to working with Bob and hopefully we can soon start seeing this team live up to the high expectations that everyone, especially our fans, has for the players and coaching staff."

Hamley has his hands full in Edmonton -- the Rush is 0-5 this season and has had the lowest-scoring offense in the league every year of its existence.

In five seasons coaching the Arizona Sting (including one year when the team still played in Columbus), Hamley compiled an overall record of 46-42, guiding the team to the NLL Champion's Cup Final twice (2005 and 2007).

Hamley would still be coaching the Sting if not for the team's suspension of operations last fall, creating a potentially troublesome situation for the Rush if Arizona ever returns.

It is not clear if the Rush would owe Arizona compensation if the Sting returned from hiatus and Hamley opted to stay in Edmonton. It's equally unclear whether the Rush compensated Colorado for the right to lure Hamley away.
