NLL sends off Veltman with Player of Week award

Loose ball king honored one last time; Tavares nets 24th Weekly award

The National Lacrosse League has named retiring Toronto Rock forward Jim Veltman as the Overall Player of the Week for Week Eighteen.

Week 18 Overall Player of the Week honors go to forward Jim Veltman, who played the final game of a legendary sixteen-season career this past weekend, scored a goal, tallied four assists, and scooped up 17 loose balls in a 15-14 loss to Philadelphia on Sunday.

Buffalo Bandits forward John Tavares was named Offensive Player of the Week following an eight-point (four goals, four assists) performance in a 14-10 win over Portland on Saturday.

New York Titans defenseman Greg Peyser won the Defensive Player of the Week award after holding Rochester's John Grant to one goal in a 12-11 New York win on Saturday. Peyser also added a goal and an assist, and picked up 13 loose balls.

Brad Self of the Chicago Shamrox was named Transition Player of the Week. Self scored five goals, tallied five assists and picked up 13 loose balls over two games this past weekend as Chicago earned a split against Minnesota, a 12-10 win on Friday and a 12-11 loss on Saturday.

Rookie of the Week honors went to Pete Jacobs of the Portland LumberJax. The rookie forward scored four goals and picked up four loose balls in Portland's 14-10 loss at Buffalo on Saturday.
