The National Lacrosse League announced Wednesday that Toronto Rock goaltender Bob Watson has been selected as the 2008 US Navy Goaltender of the Year.

Watson, 37, posted a 10.34 goals-against average and a 78.6 save percentage this season, good for third- and fifth-best in the league among eligible goaltenders.

However, Toronto's inconsistent play down the stretch leaves Watson out of the postseason for the first time since 1998, when the Rock was known as the Ontario Raiders and was based out of Hamilton.

In the decade since, Watson has been a part of five NLL championship teams and has now won the Goaltender of the Year award twice (2001); the award assures him of his third career selection as an NLL First-Team All-Pro.

Previous winners include: Anthony Cosmo (2007), Steve Dietrich (2005 & 2006), Gee Nash (2004), Pat O'Toole (2003) and Rob Blasdell (2002).
