The National Lacrosse League today released the protected player lists for each member team, ahead of the Boston Blazers' expansion draft later this month.

Boston will select a player from each team in the Thursday, 24 July draft, for a total of twelve selections. The Blazers may choose from among all players that a particular team has left unprotected.

Key unprotected players include Buffalo defender Pat McCready and Colorado goaltender Chris Levis.

A number of factors will certainly play into Boston's decision-making process, including which unprotected players are unrestricted free agents. Any unrestricted free agent selected by Boston would have to be designated as a franchise player in order for Boston to be assured of keeping the player from hitting the free agent market.

The Blazers previously acquired All-Star forward Dan Dawson and veteran forward Peter Veltman in a dispersal draft.

Clubs were given the option of either protecting one goaltender and thirteen of its runners (forwards or defensemen), or two goaltenders and ten runners. Four teams (Buffalo, Philadelphia, Portland and San Jose) chose to protect two goaltenders; the other eight opted for the extra three runners.

No team may lose more than one of its players in the expansion draft.
