Blazers draft Poulin first in second expansion draftDéjà vu: Bergey drafted again, then Thenhaus returns via tradeR.A. Philly Outsider's Guide Editor in Chief The Boston Blazers today selected Toronto Rock goaltender Mike Poulin with the first pick in this year's National Lacrosse League expansion draft. Poulin, if he remains with the Blazers, will be the latest in a succession of goaltenders who have gone from backing up Toronto's veteran netminder Bob Watson to playing for a first-year club, a group that includes Rob Blasdell (Albany) and Matt Roik (New Jersey). This was the second expansion draft in a year for the Blazers, who were originally slated to join the league for the 2008 season. In the wake of last fall's messy collective bargaining negotiations, the Blazers elected to take a year off. By the end of the twelve-pick draft, in which the Blazers selected one unprotected player from each of the other twelve teams, Boston had once again drafted Philadelphia forward Jake Bergey. A year ago, the Blazers ended up dealing Bergey back to the Wings for two entry draft picks. In addition, the Blazers managed to reacquire Brendan Thenhaus, selecting transition player Cam Bergman from Edmonton and immediately trading him back to the Rush for Thenhaus and goaltender Kurtis Wagar. Full draft results follow.
