The New York Titans will host the Toronto Rock in the "Florida Lacrosse Cup," the National Lacrosse League's first-ever game in Florida.

The 2009 regular-season opener for both teams, the game will be played on Saturday, 3 January at the Bank Atlantic Center in Sunrise, home arena of the NHL's Florida Panthers.

"We definitely view South Florida as a place for future expansion," NLL commissioner Jim Jennings said, "and we are bringing the game here ... to give fans a chance to experience the excitement of the NLL in person at this great venue."

Former Philadelphia Wings forward Kevin Finneran spearheaded the effort to bring an NLL game to south Florida. Finneran, along with former MILL-era players Jeff Goldberg and Robert Delorimiere and Lacrossewear owner Bo Lamon, has been organizing a bid for an NLL expansion franchise.
