Cosmo named Overall Player of the WeekThomson, Disher, Stewart honored; Duch is Rookie of Week againNLL Press Release Boston Blazers goaltender Anthony Cosmo has been named the National Lacrosse League's Overall Player of the Week for Week Fifteen.
Cosmo held the Rochester Knighthawks to a season-low 5 goals in a 10-5 Boston win, making 37 saves on 42 shots faced. Merrick Thomson won the Offensive Player of the Week award for his efforts in a big win for Philadelphia's push towards the playoffs. Thomson scored five goals and three assists for eight points in the team's 16-14 victory over the Toronto Rock. Thomson's fifth assist was on the game winning goal scored with one minute left to play. A pair of Portland players were honored for their efforts in a weekend where the LumberJax won two road games, clinching a home playoff game. Matt Disher, the Defensive Player of the Week, made 36 saves and allowed nine goals in an 11-9 win at Calgary that clinched a playoff berth. He also played the first 44 minutes at Minnesota, allowing eight goals and making 23 saves in a 19-14 win. In the LumberJax' two game, Scott Stewart (Transition Player of the Week) netted a total of five goals, two assists, and ten loose balls. San Jose forward Rhys Duch once again won the Rookie of the Week Award. His five goals and three assists against Colorado not only included the overtime game-winner that clinched a playoff berth for the Stealth, but he broke the league record for points scored by a rookie.
