Coaches named for All-Star Game

The National Lacrosse League announced today that Philadelphia's Tony Resch and Rochester's Paul Day will serve as head coaches for next month’s inaugural NLL All-Star Game.

Resch, head coach of the Wings, will be behind the bench of the American All-Stars, while Day, who runs the field operations of the Knighthawks, will coach the Canadian All-Stars. The two will be joined on the bench by the coaching and training staffs of their respective clubs.

The selection was based on last year’s final regular season standings. Resch guided the Wings to a first place finish in 1998 with a 9-3 record and won the first-ever NLL Champion’s Cup. Because Baltimore, last year’s second place finisher, also had an American coach (John Tucker), Day, whose Knighthawks finished third at 6-6, was tapped as the coach of the Canadians. He was born in Ontario, and currently resides there in the city of St. Catharines.

The two coaches will battle against each other this Friday night when Rochester travels to Philadelphia for a 7:30 PM game at the First Union Center.

The All-Star Game will be played Saturday, 20 February at the Blue Cross Arena at the Rochester War Memorial. Fan balloting is currently being conducted online at the NLL web site, for the five starting runners for each team.
