All-Star rosters almost set

NLL Press Release

Ten more players for each of the two teams in the first-ever National Lacrosse League All-Star Game were announced today.

The mid-season classic will be played on Saturday, 20 February at the Blue Cross Arena at the Rochester War Memorial. A team of the best Canadian born NLL players will take on a team comprised of American and Indigenous NLL’ers.

The latest additions to the rosters came from voting done by NLL players as well as selections made by the coaches of each of the two All-Star Teams.

The following players were chosen by their peers for the American roster: Ed Fay (Syracuse), Duane Jacobs (Rochester), Darris Kilgour (Buffalo), Jeff Klodzen (Syracuse), and Chris Panos (Buffalo). Chosen to the Canadian team by NLL players were Troy Cordingley (Buffalo), Colin Doyle (Toronto), Chris Gill (Toronto), Joe Hiltz (Baltimore), and Jim Veltman (Toronto). Players were not allowed to vote for members of their own NLL team. Furthermore, Canadian players were only able to vote for Canadians and American/Indigenous players were limited to voting for the same.

Tony Resch, head coach of the Philadelphia Wings, who will be behind the bench of the American All-Star Team, chose the following five players to his team: Paul Cantabene (Baltimore), Rich Kilgour (Buffalo), Pat McCabe (New York), John McEvoy (Philadelphia), and Regy Thorpe (Rochester). Paul Day, head coach of the Rochester Knighthawks, who will coach the Canadian All-Star Team, chose the following five players to his team: Ted Dowling (Rochester), Curt Malawsky (Rochester), Randy Mearns (Rochester), Matt Shearer (Baltimore), and Rodney Tapp (Baltimore).

Resch named Sal LoCascio of the New York Saints and Derek General of the Rochester Knighthawks as his two goalies. The Canadian netminders selected by Day were Dallas Eliuk of Philadelphia and Bob Watson of Toronto.

Today’s group of players joins those who were announced last week as starters for the game as chosen through fan balloting over www.be-lax.com, the league’s official website. The last players named to each team will be a selection by NLL Commissioner John Livsey.
