Stop the presses. Regy Thorpe of the Rochester Knighthawks scored a goal last night.

In fact, he scored two, which should be cause for a national holiday.

The defensive ace of the Knighthawks, who has never scored a goal during his four-plus years with the team, got warmed up by scoring in the breakaway portion of the skills competition before the National Lacrosse League All-Star Game at Blue Cross Arena.

Then in the game, he scored on a second-quarter fast break, drawing a huge ovation from the pro-United States crowd.

In the breakaway portion of the skills competition, each member of the American and Canadian teams took one shot on the opposing goaltender.

And Thorpe did his part for the U.S., beating Toronto's Bob Watson with a low shot that stunned everyone on the floor.

Thorpe's goal wasn't enough, though, as the Canadians won 10-6.

The Canadians, in what would be the theme of the night, dominated the skills competition as Philadelphia's Dallas Eliuk recorded the most saves with 20, edging out Rochester's Derek General who had 19 combined during the breakaway and rapid-fire events.

Canada also won the rapid-fire 10-9 as John Tavares of the Buffalo Bandits led the way with three goals.

Knighthawk Duane Jacobs topped the Americans with three goals, and Tavares won an overtime shootout to clinch the individual title.
