The National Lacrosse League’s new franchise in Albany, New York will begin to take shape next week as they start the process of building a roster for the first-year club’s inaugural season of play. The yet-to-be-named team will acquire the services of seven players with pro indoor lacrosse experience.

Next Wednesday, 25 August, an Expansion Draft will be held at 11:00 AM (Eastern) to give the club’s General Manager/Head Coach Terry Sanderson a chance to bring veterans from the other NLL teams to the league’s recent entry. Via conference call with the league office and the other teams, Sanderson will select one player from each club.

Teams submitted their 23-man rosters in two categories, protected and unprotected players, the latter category from which Sanderson can make his selections. Clubs had the option of submitting their protected lists on a 13-and-1 or 10-and-2 basis. The first option enabled them to protect more players (14), but only one of their goaltenders, while the second, though only allowing 12 players to be protected, allowed teams to protect two netminders.

Albany also currently holds the first pick overall in the NLL Draft, which is Tuesday, 21 September at 4:30 PM at Marine Midland Arena and free and open to the public.
