NLL releases 2000 schedule
League season opens with expansion Albany Attack visiting long-time league member Philadelphia Wings
NLL Press Release
The National Lacrosse League will enter its third season when the new team for this season, the expansion Albany Attack, travels to the First Union Center on the first Friday in 2000, 7 January, to take on the Philadelphia Wings. The game is one of 48 on the schedule released today (printed below).
The upcoming campaign will include eight teams, the most in any one season since the current pro indoor version began in 1987 as the Eagle Pro Box Lacrosse League (later changed to MILL - Major Indoor Lacrosse League).
Defending world champion Toronto opens defense of its title when the Rock take on the cross-border rival Bandits on 8 January, at Marine Midland Arena in Buffalo.
That same night, John Grant, Jr., the 1999 NCAA Division I Outstanding Player and Outstanding Attackman who was taken with the first pick overall in the NLL Draft two days ago at Marine Midland Arena, will make his pro debut when he and his Rochester Knighthawks teammates travel east to take on Thruway rival Syracuse.
Pro indoor lacrosse makes it return to Pittsburgh on Saturday, 22 January, when cross-state rival Philadelphia comes to the Civic Arena to take on the team formerly known as the Baltimore Thunder. (Pittsburgh’s nickname is yet to be announced.) The first home game for Albany comes Friday, 14 January, when 1999 NLL MVP Gary Gait, 1999 NLL Rookie of the Year Jesse Hubbard, and the rest of the Pittsburgh club come to Pepsi Arena.
Teams will each play 12 regular season games, six at home and six away. Each club will play five of the other seven teams twice each (once at home and once on the road) and the other two remaining clubs once each.
The regular season concludes on Saturday, 15 April, and includes 15 Fridays, 32 Saturdays, and one Sunday game.
