Experts Poll: Where a win is a loss

Colorado no longer perfect, Arizona slips to fifth

While the Colorado Mammoth still leads the Lacrosse-Network.com Experts Poll this week, the Tusks have lost their perfect score and another team lost ground after winning -- to a team that lost.

Colorado, which "only" won 10-8 at Portland on Thursday and then beat Calgary at home on Sunday, drew 103 points on seven first-place votes and one second-place vote.

That's still enough to stay well ahead of second-place Rochester (97 points, one first-place vote), which crushed the very same LumberJax, 18-12, two nights later at Blue Cross Arena.

Winning, and margin of victory, seemingly became less important with the next three positions, where Buffalo jumped both Philadelphia and Arizona to move into third place, at 81 points.

While it makes sense that the Bandits overtook the Wings (following a 12-8 win at Philadelphia this past weekend), it was far less expected that Philadelphia would manage to break its tie with Arizona (which beat Edmonton in overtime) and establish a 78-71 lead.

The only other move this week was a big one, with Portland paying dearly for losing to both division leaders. The LumberJax lost nineteen points from last week (46 to 27) and, more importantly, slid three spots, to eleventh.

In the wake of Portland's fall, Minnesota (48 points), Chicago (41 points) and Edmonton (30 points) all moved up one spot.

Our panel of eight experts includes a wide range of top lacrosse minds, including Outsider's Guide writers, players, and coaches. Scoring is on an 13-12-11-etc. basis, so that the maximum score a team can earn is 104 points and the minimum is eight points.

The complete rankings from this week's Experts Poll, with comments (win-loss record through Sunday is in parentheses):
